Why visit Kericho Tea Highlands?

Kericho is Kenya’s best-known tea-growing landscape, with rolling green estates, smallholder farms and a long-established tea-processing economy. The highland scenery and active value chain make it suitable for visitors who want to understand how tea moves from field production to a finished product. A programme may include an estate or smallholder farm walk, explanations of tea planting and maintenance, a hand-plucking demonstration, leaf collection, factory processing, grading, blending and a guided tasting. Factory access is controlled and must be confirmed in advance. Professional groups can request discussions on labour, mechanisation, smallholder systems, cooperative services, quality management, sustainability, energy use, climate adaptation and market requirements. Tea is harvested through much of the year, but rain, factory operations and host availability affect what can be seen. The area is cool and can be wet, so travellers should carry a light rain jacket, closed walking shoes and warm layers. Some farm paths may be muddy or uneven. The programme can be adjusted for leisure visitors, families, students or technical delegations. Kericho can be included as a focused one- or two-day tea experience or as part of a longer western Kenya agricultural circuit. It combines well with Kisumu, the North Rift grain and dairy belt, community enterprises, forest scenery and selected wildlife or cultural extensions.
