Suggested itinerary
Arrival, Orientation and Kenya Agriculture Briefing
Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to the hotel. The programme coordinator introduces Kenya's main agricultural zones, rainfall patterns, major export crops, smallholder systems and the schedule for farm visits. Participants discuss learning objectives so hosts can emphasise production, processing, sustainability, cooperative management or market access as appropriate.
Kiambu Coffee Farm and Farm-to-Cup Session
Travel to a coffee estate in Kiambu. Walk through the farm with a guide to examine coffee varieties, nursery management, shade systems, soil fertility, pest control and harvesting standards. Continue to the wet-processing area for a demonstration of pulping, fermentation, washing and drying. Finish with roasting and a guided tasting before returning to Nairobi or staying near the farm.
Nyeri Smallholder Coffee and Cooperative Visit
Drive to the Nyeri highlands and meet smallholder coffee producers. Discuss farm sizes, household labour, climate risks, input costs, cherry delivery and cooperative services. At a local factory or cooperative, follow intake, weighing, quality separation and payment processes. The session includes a practical discussion on traceability and opportunities for higher-value specialty coffee.
Dairy Enterprise and Sustainable Farm Systems
Visit a mixed farm combining dairy cattle, fodder production and crop activities. Topics include breed selection, housing, animal welfare, feed formulation, silage preparation, manure management, milk hygiene and farm record keeping. Where biosecurity permits, participants observe milking and cooling procedures. The afternoon includes a facilitated exchange with farmers or extension staff.
Kericho Tea Estate, Factory and Tasting
Travel to Kericho through productive highland landscapes. Visit a tea estate or organised smallholder operation to learn about propagation, pruning cycles, plucking standards and field productivity. Continue to a processing facility where access is approved and review withering, rolling, oxidation, drying, sorting and packaging. Conclude with a comparative tea-tasting session.
Market Discussion and Return to Nairobi
After breakfast, hold a closing session covering lessons from coffee, dairy and tea enterprises. Discuss market channels, certification, value addition, youth participation and practical ideas participants may adapt in their own businesses or studies. Return to Nairobi with a meal stop en route, then transfer to the airport or a city hotel.

“A valuable horticulture tour with a good balance of technical information and hands-on activities. The greenhouse team answered detailed questions and the farm-to-table lunch was excellent.”
