About this journey
This four day journey combines practical agricultural learning with wildlife and highland nature experiences in Nairobi, central Kenya and the Rift Valley. The route is suitable for leisure travellers, families, farmers, students, cooperatives and organisations that want a compact introduction to farming systems and conservation. The first morning begins with a wildlife drive in Nairobi National Park. Travellers then continue to a confirmed coffee or tea farm in the highlands near Nairobi. The guided farm programme can include crop husbandry, seasonal harvesting, coffee pulping, roasting, tasting and a farm prepared lunch. The day ends with a scenic road journey to Nyeri. The second day focuses on mixed highland agriculture. A dairy visit introduces animal housing, zero grazing, feeding, milk collection, hygiene, yoghurt production and cheese making where suitable facilities are available. A beekeeping visit explains hive types, colony care, honey harvesting, processing and tasting. Birdwatching or a short nature activity may be arranged in the wider Aberdare highlands according to weather and time. The third morning includes a wildlife drive in Aberdare National Park. The park adds mountain forest, moorland, waterfalls, streams, birdlife and opportunities to observe elephants, buffalo and other forest wildlife. The route then turns toward Naivasha with a scenic stop at Thomson Falls in Nyahururu. The final day introduces aquaculture and mixed farming around Naivasha. A selected fish farm explains pond systems, water quality, stocking, feeding, harvesting and marketing. A second host may demonstrate dairy production and offer supervised horse riding or a guided nature walk when conditions are suitable. The journey then returns to Nairobi for a hotel or airport transfer. The programme is primarily a Kenya Farm and Agro Tour because agricultural learning remains central, while the Nairobi and Aberdare wildlife drives are connected experiences. Every farm visit is subject to host confirmation, season, biosecurity, animal welfare, weather and production schedules. Nairobi National Park, Coffee or Tea Farm and Nyeri
Meet the professional driver guide before sunrise and travel to Nairobi National Park for an early wildlife drive. Enter when the park opens and explore approved roads across grassland and acacia habitats. The guide searches for rhino, lion, giraffe, buffalo, antelope and birdlife while explaining the relationship between the protected area and the growing city. Every wildlife sighting depends on natural movement and cannot be guaranteed. Leave the park and continue to a confirmed coffee or tea farm in the highlands near Nairobi. Begin with an introduction to the crop, the local climate and the annual production cycle. Walk through the fields to discuss planting material, pruning, soil care, crop nutrition, shade, pests and water management. When the season and farm facilities allow, observe or participate in supervised harvesting. A coffee programme may demonstrate pulping, fermentation, washing, drying, roasting and tasting. A tea programme may cover plucking, leaf handling and tasting. Enjoy lunch at the farm and discuss labour, production costs, quality, value addition and market access with the host. Continue through the central Kenya highlands to Nyeri. Arrive in the evening, check into the accommodation and receive a briefing for the next day of agricultural visits.
Nyeri Dairy Farming, Beekeeping and Highland Nature
After breakfast, visit a selected dairy farm in the Nyeri highlands. The host introduces the herd, breed selection, animal housing, zero grazing, fodder production, feed preparation, animal health and manure management. Follow the milk process from hygienic collection through filtering, cooling and storage. Where suitable facilities and production schedules are available, observe yoghurt making and introductory cheese production. Continue to a beekeeping enterprise. Learn how traditional and modern hives are selected and positioned, how colonies are managed, how farmers identify suitable bee forage and how honey is harvested, filtered, stored and prepared for sale. Honey tasting may be included when safe and available. Visitors with a serious bee sting allergy must inform the tour team before travel. The afternoon can include birdwatching or a short guided nature activity in the wider Aberdare highlands. This optional activity depends on weather, available time, access and guide arrangements. Return to the Nyeri accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Aberdare National Park, Thomson Falls and Naivasha
Begin with breakfast and travel to Aberdare National Park for a morning wildlife and nature drive. The route may pass through mountain forest, bamboo zones, streams, valleys and open highland areas depending on road and weather conditions. Search for elephants, buffalo, forest antelope, primates and birdlife while learning about water catchments, habitat protection and the ecological importance of the Aberdare range. Dense vegetation makes wildlife observation less predictable than in an open savannah park, so the experience also gives attention to the forest, mountain scenery and waterfalls. Rain, mist or difficult roads may require the guide to change the planned route. Leave the park and travel toward Nyahururu. Stop at Thomson Falls for a scenic view, photographs and a short rest. Continue through the central highlands and descend toward Naivasha. Arrive at the selected hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight.
Naivasha Aquaculture, Mixed Farming and Return to Nairobi
After breakfast, visit a selected fish farm in the Naivasha region. The host explains the water source, pond or tank preparation, water quality, stocking, feeding, growth monitoring, common production challenges, harvesting, handling and market planning. The technical depth can be adjusted for farmers, students, investors or leisure travellers. Continue to another selected farm for a dairy and mixed farming experience. Review cattle housing, feeding, milk handling and the connection between livestock and other farm enterprises. Where the host has suitable facilities, weather is favourable and the visitor meets safety requirements, a supervised horse riding activity may be available. A guided nature walk can be arranged as an alternative. Enjoy lunch according to the confirmed programme and begin the return journey to Nairobi. The final transfer can end at a city hotel or the airport. Flight passengers should allow generous time for road traffic and airport procedures. An additional Nairobi night may be recommended when the departure flight is early or when the group wants a more relaxed final day.
