Why visit Tsavo East National Park?

Tsavo East is a vast semi-arid wilderness known for broad landscapes, red-dust elephants, the Galana River and a strong sense of space. It is an excellent choice for travellers who value scenery, long game drives and a less compressed safari experience. Wildlife may include elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope and many bird species. The park’s size means sightings can be spread out, and a successful visit depends on realistic expectations, good guiding and enough time. Major points of interest may include the Galana River, Lugard Falls, Aruba Dam and selected viewpoints, depending on the route and road conditions. Tsavo East works particularly well in a road itinerary between Nairobi or Amboseli and the Kenya coast. Accommodation location matters because the park is large and gates are far apart. Two nights is a useful minimum for many routes, with additional time recommended for travellers who want deeper exploration or a combination with Tsavo West. Conditions can be hot, dusty and remote. Travellers should carry water, sun protection and camera protection and should follow the guide’s instructions. Mobile coverage can be limited in some areas. The route should include adequate fuel, safe travel times and no unnecessary off-road pressure on wildlife or habitat.
