Why visit Ngorongoro Crater?
Ngorongoro Crater is a large volcanic caldera within the wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Grassland, wetland, woodland and lake habitats support a high concentration of wildlife. A regulated crater drive may reveal buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, gazelles, elephants, lions, hyenas, hippopotamuses, birds and, with luck, rhinoceroses. Entry times, road direction, picnic areas and vehicle rules are controlled by the conservation authority.
