About this journey
This route provides more time than the compact migration trail. Three nights in the Maasai Mara allow different sectors to be explored before a planned border transfer. Northern and central Serengeti provide contrasting habitats and migration possibilities before the Ngorongoro Crater. The route should be adjusted when current herd locations do not support northern ecosystem travel. No crossing or predator event can be guaranteed.

Suggested itinerary
Nairobi to Maasai Mara
Travel through the Great Rift Valley to Maasai Mara. Arrive for lunch and an afternoon wildlife drive.
Full Day Maasai Mara
Explore one productive sector for big cats, elephants, buffalo, giraffes and plains animals.
Second Full Day Maasai Mara
Use a second full day to explore a different sector and follow current migration or resident wildlife information.
Maasai Mara to Northern Serengeti
Complete border procedures and the Tanzania handover, then continue to northern Serengeti. Take a short drive near camp if time allows.
Full Day Northern Serengeti
Explore northern plains, woodland and river systems for migration herds when present, resident predators, elephants and giraffes. River crossings cannot be guaranteed.
Northern to Central Serengeti
Travel south through the park, stopping for wildlife and landscapes before reaching central Serengeti.
Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands
Explore central Serengeti in the morning and continue to the Ngorongoro highlands.
Ngorongoro Crater and Arusha
Descend into the crater for wildlife viewing and a picnic lunch. Ascend and transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
