About this journey
Travel from Nairobi into the Great Rift Valley for a private day safari in Lake Nakuru National Park. The park's compact road network brings lake shore, woodland, grassland, escarpment and waterfall scenery within one protected area. It is strongly associated with black and white rhinoceros conservation and may also offer Rothschild's giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, zebras, baboons, predators and extensive birdlife. The drive begins early to create useful game viewing time after the road journey. The guide selects routes around current lake levels, wildlife movement and road conditions. Flamingo numbers vary according to water chemistry, food and movement between Rift Valley lakes, so large concentrations cannot be guaranteed. Rhinoceros sightings are also natural and never certain, although the park provides meaningful opportunities. Lunch is arranged at a lodge, restaurant or picnic site according to the confirmed package. The tour returns to Nairobi in the evening and is suitable for guests seeking a full day outside the capital without an overnight stay. A Lake Naivasha extension can be added only when the programme is redesigned, because trying to include too many stops can reduce time inside the national park.
